Official Start of Papaya Planting Assistance Project in Resettlement Villages of Myitsone HPP

 

On April 23, the papaya planting assistance project in the resettlement villages of Myitsone HPP was officially started. SPIC held a papaya planting ceremony together with the village committees of Aung Myin Thar and Maliyan Resettlement Villages.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Government of Kachin State, the Director of Agriculture Bureau, the Head of Sustainable Development Department of SPIC ACHC, the Head of Aung Myin Thar Resettlement Village and the Head of local police station jointly cut the ribbon for the papaya planting ceremony and planted papaya seedlings with their own hands.

The Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Government of Kachin State fully affirmed the work carried out by SPIC ACHC in the resettlement villages, and in his speech, asked the villagers to actively cooperate and do a good job in papaya planting and cultivation in strict accordance with the technical requirements of the agricultural company so as to achieve the expected benefits and effects.

To help the resettlers increase their income and actively promote the sustainable development of the resettlement villages, ACHC, on the basis of fully soliciting the opinions of the village committees and villagers' representatives of the resettlement villages, cooperated with Longsheng Agricultural Company in Myitkyina, retained agricultural technical experts to give preliminary technical guidance such as reclamation, weeding and fertilization of papaya planting land in the resettlement villages, and entrusted Longsheng Agricultural Company to carry out seedling cultivation and technical service. A total of 4,000 papaya trees were planted this year, and the planting scale will be expanded in due course according to the actual planting situation in the future.
